The Vice Chancellor of the University of Ibadan, Prof. Isaac
Adewole, has called on Nigerians to always be at alert and give useful
information to security operatives in order to curb the spate of insurgency in
the country.
Adewole, who spoke with journalists in his office on Tuesday,
also lamented the negative impact of the activities of Boko Haram sect on the
university communities.
While commenting on the over 200 secondary school girls
abducted by the Islamic fundamentalists in Borno state last week, the professor of gynecology
noted that the nation would only be free from the incessant attacks when the
citizens are ready to play their part in the fight.
According to him,
every Nigerian must take it as a point of duty to provide useful information to
security agents if the spate of terrorism in the country would be arrested.
He also lamented the attitude of many Nigerian on security
issues, adding that paying little or no attention to security matter would neither help
individuals nor the nation.
"We cannot say as a university we are not affected with
this insurgency situation rocking this nation. This very unpleasant incident
should further spur all of us to be more determined and focused to support the
government and all security officials by volunteering useful and important
information about questionable movements within our environment.
"The fact is we must all wake up and tackle this
insecurity challenges together if we want to progress as a country" he
said.
