The Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Olayiwola Adeyemi 111, has
congratulated the new executive council of the Oyo State Correspondents' Chapel
of the Nigerian Union of Journalists, NUJ.
In a letter personally signed by the first class king and
addressed to the Chapel Chairman, Ola Ajayi of Vanguard Newspapers, Alaafin
also pledged the support of the palace to the new leadership.
"As the newly elected chairman of the chapel, I have no
doubt in my mind that you will excel in your new office and with a confident
assurance that you will take the chapel to greater heights, according to your
promise in your acceptance speech as the chairman of the chapel.
"It is my fervent wish and prayer that the Almighty
Allah will grant you all the enablement to pilot the affairs of the
distinguished chapel most creditably in the next three years," the monarch
said in the letter dated April 21.
After many thwarted attempts, members of the chapel
eventually held an election on April 7 to appoint a new set of officers for a
term of three years.
Other members of the new executive are Waheed Adebayo of
Leadership Newspaper (Vice Chairman), Boye Ajayi of the News Agency of Nigeria
(Secretary), Yinka Adeniran of Newswatch Magazine (Assistant Secretary), Akeem
Abass of News Agency of Nigeria (Treasurer), Jide Jegede of Witness Nigeria
online (Financial Secretary) and Olawale Ajao of Alaroye Newspapers (Auditor).
The officers were sworn in immediately after the election.
