The chairman Senate Committee on Capital
Market, Ayoade Adeseun, has expressed regrets for being part of the team that
worked for the victory of Governor Abiola Ajimobi in the 2011 elections.
Adeseun, who spoke with some
journalists in his Ibadan residence on Monday, lamented the style of governance
of Mr. Ajimobi, alleging that his All Progressives Congress-led (APC) government
in the state has made life more miserable for the people than it was before it
came on board in 2011.
The lawmaker was elected into the
Nigerian Senate under the platform of the defunct Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN)
to represent the Oyo Central Senatorial District of the state.
After weeks of dumping the APC
for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Adeseun told journalists that he would
be welcomed back into the party (PDP) in a rally scheduled for August 19.
Speaking in defence of his return
to the PDP, he accused the governor of not allowing views of other members of
the party in his government.
He cited examples of alleged
failure of the state government under Ajimobi, insisting that most of the governor’s
policies are anti-people.
He said he had expected that the
governor would correct the anomalies of past government, but ‘he end up doing
worse’.
The Senator frowned at Ajimobi’s
condemnation of his decision to dump the APC for PDP, accusing the governor of
ingratitude.
"When Ajimobi won the
election, I went to him and told him that we had done yeoman job. God has made
us to make the impossible, possible. I said the seat you are sitting on, I am
also interested in as a full-blooded, bonafide Oyo state indigene. However
there can be only one governor at a time.
"Our party picked you and I
will give you 100 per cent support. I will defer my own governorship ambition
until after you are done, provided that you govern with the fear of God. You
should allow governance to be collective.
"So, when I heard on air a
week ago that Ajimobi was saying that people should not worry about Adeseun
because he was jumping from one party to the other, I just laughed at him.
Ajimobi would not have been governor if I had not changed parties. There was no
way he could have become governor if I had not changed from PDP to ANC. He had
no chance whatsoever.
"For that man to now go on
air and say Adeseun goes from one party to the other is the height of
ingratitude", Adeseun said.
Though he only hinted on the
possibility of him seeking the PDP ticket for a governorship race in the state,
the Senator said he would make his real intention known to the public after the
rally.
