Passenger threatens legal action against Turkish Airlines over missing goods

By ENI SAMUEL
Frustrated over the alleged lackadaisical attitude of the management of Turkish Airlines, a Nigerian, Olamide Abayomi, has threatened to opt for legal action to seek justice on his missing luggage with the airline company.
Abayomi, who addressed journalists in Akure, Ondo state capital, on Thursday, alleged that two years after he discovered and reported to the management of the airlines company that his luggage was illegally tampered with, all he got were empty promises.
According to him, goods valued at 6kg got missing in his luggage when he travelled on a Turkish airlines plane with ticket number TKO625 in 2012.
“On my arrival in Nigeria around 9:10PM in 2012, every passenger was expected to move to baggage collection centre after clearance from the immigration officers. I waited for almost two hours with few other passengers thinking that our luggage will come out. It was later brought to our notice that five bags were retrieved out of which mine was one. Also, one of my major bags was torn at the arrival.
“Immediately, I informed the head security officers at the airport with a few personnel on ground. My bag was weighed again to confirm if there was change in the kilogram from the take-off point. I discovered about 6kg difference from the total weight.
“I was told by the Operations Manager to report at the head office after delaying me in Lagos for two days without results. I have since reported the case to the management. I have written series of letters, but the management has failed to address the issue,” he said.
Describing the development as fraud, Abayomi explained he was settling for legal option since effort to get justice through many correspondences with the airlines company have failed to yield any encouraging result.
Some of the missing items in his luggage, according to him, include 10 Pairs of vintage designer round-neck, 10 cartoons of Lightning bulbs and sockets for house use, 2 pairs of shoes, Souvenir beaming Olympic logo a torn bag (visible).
Abayomi noted that he has decided to challenge Turkish Airline in Court because of the lackadaisical attitude of the management who has refused to do the right thing.
“I have waited for two years without any solution from Turkish Airlines, I waited this long because I wanted to follow due process but the airline has failed to reason along with me.
“The management in one of their responses opened a file for my case with number DPRLOSTK10147. They promised to look into the matter but up till now, nothing has been done.
“Many Nigerians have been complaining about similar things, I will not allow this matter to rest until I get justice. I can easily overlook the issue but I have to let the management realize that what they did is wrong.
“It is crystal clear that the management of Turkish Airlines is delaying justice over the matter of missing items.  I have admissible evidence to tender against this unbearable injustice, I have waited and I need to proceed to court to seek justice”, Abayomi declared.
