The Edo state Commissioner of Police, Foluso Adebanjo, has expressed concern over increasing cases of child molestation and rape across the state, saying the rate was becoming too alarming.
Adebanjo, who stated this in his office in Benin on Monday while parading about 50 suspects arrested for various kinds of crime, also said the command had apprehended 10 people in connection with the recent deadly cult clashes.
"We must all take action against rising cases of child molestation particularly in Edo state. This trend must stop. Rape of the girl child is becoming alarming, we must do something about it," he said while asking for cooperation of the people of the state in stemming the tide.
He disclosed that the suspects paraded were arrested over cases raging from armed robbery to cultism, rape, illegal possession of arms and defilement.
While reacting to the incidents of cult clashes which was reported to have claimed six lives across the state in recent time, the police boss said his command had only officially received news of three cult-related killings.
Adebajo also promised to give criminals in the state a tough time as he urged the residents and people of the state to join hands with the police to make the state safe.
