Cop kills self, wife, 6 others

A police Corporal, Sunkanmi Ogunbiyi, has killed in his wife, a commercial motorcyclist, five members of a family and, later, himself, in Abeokuta, Ogun state.

Ogunbiyi reportedly committed the heinous crime early Thursday at a house in Ifelodun Street, Akingbola, Eleweeran area of the town.

Sources said the landlady of the house, known as Iya Basira, had often accommodated the wife of the policeman, Oluwatosin, and their two children, whenever they had quarrel.

It was said that Ogunbiyi had repeatedly warned her against this, but failed to heed the warning.

According to the source, Ogunbiyi also had quarrel with the wife last two week, and she (the wife) packed out with children to stay with Iya Basira as usual.

This, the source added, infuriated him and laid ambush for his victims in a nearby bush.

He started with a commercial cyclist that was about taking his wife and their two children to school. He shot him dead and also killed the wife in front of Iya Basira’s house.

Then, the corporal fetched for Iya Bashira, shot her, as well as her three children and her two-year-old grandchild dead.

“He  kissed his two children and handed them over to a commercial motorcyclist, who  brought him to the building, asking him to take care of them, before killing himself,’’ it was learnt.

The Police Public Relations Officer for Ogun State Command, Mr. Muyiwa Adejobi, confirmed the incident and described it as unfortunate, adding that the state Commissioner of Police, Ikemefuna Okoye, had visited the scene some officers of the command.
