The Oyo state Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigerian Union
of Journalists, NUJ, elected a new set of officers on Monday.
The new executive, led by Ola Ajayi of Vanguard Newspaper,
was sworn in at the chapel’s office in Ibadan shortly after members cast their
vote.
Other elected officers are Waheed Adebayo, Vice Chairman;
Boye Ajayi, Secretary; Yinka Adeniran, Assistant Secretary; Akeem Abass,
Treasurer; Jide Jegede, Financial Secretary and Olawale Ajao, Auditor.
After failing twice in its bid to elect its officers, the
congress of the chapel appointed a five-member committee, led by Olaide Oyelude
of Daily Newswatch, to conduct an election to fill the offices of the union.
While announcing the result of the election on Monday,
Oyelude noted that all the contestants were elected unopposed.
According to him, out of the 61 members of the chapel, 38
cast their votes for each of the contestants.
The oath of office was administered on new executive members
by Mr. Peter Idowu, an Ibadan-based lawyer.
Ajayi, in his acceptance speech, thanked members for taking
their time to put in place the new executive.
While pledging his commitment to the welfare of members and
development of the chapel, the new chairman said he was grateful for the
confidence reposed in him and the new team.
