The Vice Chairman, Senate Committee on National Planning,
Economic Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Senator Olufemi Lanlehin has warned
political opponents against sponsoring unprovoked attacks on his supporters
across the State as preparations for the 2015 general elections gather
momentum.
According to a statement issued in Ibadan yesterday by his
media aide, Olawale Sadare, this warning became imperative in view of violent
attacks carried out on hundreds of his supporters gathered at Kudeti Area of
Ibadan in Ibadan South East Local Government Council on Tuesday in anticipation
of Senator Lanlehin's visit to the area.
"Following a popular clarification on the political
party affiliation of Sen. Lanlehin through a press statement issued recently,
the people of Oyo state witnessed a theatre of absurdity from a set of
political jobbers who believe political power could be retained without the
people, forgetting they had been helped to assume the mantle of leadership by
the collective effort of the masses in 2011.
"These political jobbers came on air and in some
dailies to exhibit their total disrespect for the principle of freedom association and participatory
democracy. By and large, they were able to vindicate Sen. Olufemi Lanlehin and
a vast majority of democrats across the State who resolved to distance
themselves from APC- a party which shaky foundation in Oyo State.
"It is pathetic to discover that these political
jobbers and their principal could not desist from re-introducing their
do-or-die politics in the Pacesetter State ahead of the next year general
elections.
Some sponsored thugs unleashed terror on a multitude of
innocent citizens who had gathered to welcome Sen. Lanlehin to their community
yesterday and inflicted varying degree of injuries on scores of them.
"The attacking thugs also carted away cell phones, cash
and other valuable items belonging to the victims were women, men, the elderly
and youths most of who had just been deprived of their means of livelihood as a
result of the anti-people policies of
the present administration in the State.
"We therefore use this opportunity to prepare the minds
of these attackers and their sponsors for the dire consequence if they dare
plan further assault on the hapless citizens of the State as well as supporters
of the Senator representing Oyo South Senatorial District in the Upper
Legislative Chamber of the National Assembly." Sadare stated.
