Delta commission dismisses 26 over certificates forgery

By OLALEKAN BADMOS
The Delta State House of Assembly Commission (DSHAC) has dismissed 26 of its staff for parading fake certificates, commission’s chairperson, Josephine Kachikwu, has said.
Kachikwu, who disclosed this in a statement issued in Asaba, explained that the dismissal was effected after thorough verification and re-verification of the certificates.
The exercise, she added, was carried out by an audit firm engaged by the commission to test the validity of certificates presented by its staff for work.
The DSHAC boss further added that the commission had to carry out the exercise after some members, who believed that some of their colleagues do not merit their positions, petitioned the management, questioning the authenticity of some colleagues’ certificates.
“The firm has submitted its report and every case was subjected to further re-verification to remove any possible human error and so far, 26 employees have been dismissed from the services of the Commission for parading fake certificates; two are on interdiction, while pending cases are about 20,” she noted.
She said since she took off as the pioneer chairman of the commission in 2011, her efforts has been driven towards motivating the employees to ensure an efficient and effective service delivery in the legislature, adding that the dismissal was the most painful decision the commission would make so far.
“It is very important to state that the Commission has set a standard whereby every eligible staff for promotion is subjected to a refresher course and subsequent examination before being promoted; staffs are always promoted based on merit.
“As an incentive package, the Commission pays a handsome out-fit allowance to all staff annually to enable them maintain cooperate and dignifying looks of parliamentary staff,” while “the Commission has provided a labour-friendly climate for the flourishing of a robust workers’ union, the Parliamentary Staff Association of Nigeria (PASAN),” she said.
The commission boss also thanked Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan for approving the funds for the training and re-training of staff which, according to her, has made them to be much more alive to their duties.
