Six workers in the Edo state’s Information and Communication
Technology Agency (ICTA) have been brought before an Oredo Magistrate Court for
using fraudulent means to convert public money to their use.
The suspects, Festus Asemota (45); Eyohan Uyi Emema (28);
Fadahunsi Tayo Idowu (36); Oseni Al-Hassain (37); Uwaifo Eghosa (35) and Yakubu
Omokhudu (32), were arraigned on an eight-count charge bordering on forgery and
conversion of misappropriation of public funds.
The government prosecutor accused them of pay-rolling 18
persons whose appointments were earlier terminated by the State Rapid Response
Agency and the Ministry of Education.
More specifically, while Yakubu Omokhudu was accused of
forging a letter of notice of appointment for himself and lied that bit was
issued by the Chief of Staff to Edo State Government, Patrick Obahiagbon, Eyohan
Uyi Ememah allegedly forged a document of one Enoghama Elizabeth purporting it
to be the document of one Osaze Ogbemudia Elizabeth.
All the accused persons pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Meanwhile, the trial Magistrate, Peter Edo Asemota, has granted
Eyohan bail in the sum of N200, 000 and two sureties in like sum. The sureties,
he ordered, must be house owners within the Court jurisdiction. He also granted
others bail in N100,000 with one surety each.
The case was adjourned till 24 March, 2014.
