Relatives of missing persons storm Ibadan kidnapper’s den

It was a rowdy scene at the newly discovered kidnapper’s den in Ibadan on Sunday as family members of missing persons came to see if their relatives were among the dead or rescued victims found in the site.
The site located at Soka area, along Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, Oluyole Local Government area of Oyo state, was discovered on Saturday when some colleagues of two missing cyclists were searching for them.
Human skulls, decomposing bodies, body parts and famished individuals were found at the site when security operatives stormed the place on Saturday.
Apart from residents of the ancient city, who came to catch a glimpse of the mysterious site, people from different parts of the country were also at the scene on Sunday to check if they could find their missing persons there.
Their visit, according to some of them, was based on the report that, besides those rescued on Saturday, more people are still trapped in the dungeon crying for help.
One of them, who gave his name as Kolawole Falana, told journalists at the site that he came to look for one Dare, about 18 years old, who had been missing since about a week ago.
Though, unconfirmed report said the missing Dare was calling to tell those searching for him that he was being hidden somewhere in the bush, Falana said he was not at home when the report was given, adding that he only joined in search of the young man when the security men stationed at the scene pounced on him.
Heavily battered Falana, who had his face torn with the butt of police gun and his cloth torn into shreds after lashes of horse-whip, said the only solution to the problem was for the state government to move to the site, clear the bush, demolish all the structures there and put the place into proper use.
Also at the scene were two middle aged-men from Gbongan, Osun state. According to them, they came to search for their 95-year-old father, Isaac Adeoye Oguntade, who had got missing since 31st December, 2013.
They explained that the oldman, a retired teacher, had left home on the fateful day for Osogbo, the Osun State capital, to collect his pension from Igbonna, Osogbo branch of United Bank for Africa (UBA), but had not been seen since then.
Meanwhile, the state police command, on Sunday, said seven persons have been arrested in connection with the horrors discovered at the site.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Olabisi Okuwobi-Ilobanafor, said the suspects included two people arrested at the scene on Saturday and five security guards working with a company around the place.
Okuwobi-Ilobanafor, a Superintendent of Police, added that three dane guns, three single barrel guns, one bow, 16 arrows, 22 cutlasses, 40 live cartridges, seven table knife, one axe, two iron files and one mobile phone were recovered during police search on the site.
A detachment of mobile policemen has been stationed there to maintain law and order.
