Commission dismisses 3 senior police officers, disciplines 29 others

The Police Service Commission (PSC) on Friday dismissed three senior police officers and disciplined 29 others for professional misconduct.

The affected officers are DSP Sa’adu Akanbi, and ASPs Ignatius Atta and James Sanio.
The commission said they were sacked for conducts unbecoming of law enforcement officers.
This is contained in a statement issued by Mr Ferdinand Ekpe, the Assistant Director, Press and Public Relations of the commission in Abuja.
The statement said in addition to the dismissal, Akanbi and Sanio would be prosecuted.
It explained that the three were among 31 senior officers sanctioned by the commission according to the severity of offences they committed.
The statement said 12 officers, including Commissioner of Police Sanusi Rufai, were severely reprimanded for various offences.
It added that an ASP was compulsorily retired for unbecoming conduct.
"Four officers, including a CSP Bethram Onuoha, were reduced in rank.
"The CSP, who has been reduced to SP, is to forfeit seven months’ salary too", it said.
The statement said the commission reprimanded seven officers and issued letters of advice to two others and treated six promotion appeals.
It added that Mr Mike Okiro, the PSC Chairman, charged personnel of the force to redouble their efforts in the maintenance of law and order.
