A faction of the Accord Party (AP) has kicked against the choice
of Mohammed Nalado and former governor of Oyo State, Rasheed Ladoja, as party’s
representatives in the upcoming National Conference.
It also threatened to take legal action if necessary corrections are not made before the conference take off.
In a statement jointly signed by Isaac Adeniyi and Samson Isibor, national
chairman and secretary respectively, the faction described as self-imposition
and a ploy by the Peoples Democratic Party to embarrass and divide the party
the emergence of the duo.
"The National Executive Council (NEC) and the National
Working Committee (NWC) of Accord Party (AP) at an emergency meeting held today
(March 9, 2014), reviewed the purported self-nomination of the duo of Alhaji
Mohammed Nala- do and Rasheed Ladoja as delegates to the proposed National Conference
and resolved as follows:
"That Alhaji Mohammed Nalado and Rasheed Ladoja are no
longer members of Accord Party, haven earlier been expelled from the party in
line with the constitution of the party.
"We reject in its entirety the inclusion of the two in
the list of delegates to the proposed conference as representatives of AP.
Members of our party wish to state that the inclusion was done through the back
door without due process and consensus decision and nomination of the party
executives.
"Also, it amounts to a ploy by enemies of progress in
the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to embarrass the leadership and
members of Accord Party by embarking on an exercise it will soon regret. Alhaji
Nalado and Rasheed Ladoja are not and can never be credible representatives of
AP to the national conference as they have since lost the integrity and
followership of our party by their expulsion. We see the action of those who
included their names into the list as the delegates as an attempt to cause
division and crisis among our members and therefore should be ignored
completely," the release read.
Nalado and Ladoja had been earlier announced by the party as
its representatives at the conference billed to take off later this month
(March).
