Edo APC members petition national body over alleged imposition of party officers

Members of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Owan West local government of Edo state have petitioned the National Interim Executive of the party to warn against appointing executive officers without going through due process.
The party faithful, who said they were acting on information that some leaders of the defunct Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, have concluded arrangements to impose their cronies as executive officer of APC across the wards and local governments in the state, warned that such action would spell doom for the party.
The petition dated February 18 was sent to the national body through its South-South Vice Chairman, Tom Ikimi.
According to a leader of the party in Owan West, Matthew Okhiria, the people effectively poured their mind in the letter with the hope that their leaders would do the needful to save the party from the impending calamity.
Okhiria added that the party faithful expressed their desire to be part of genuine congresses where all card-carrying members will elect their leaders in a free, fair and transparent arrangement, saying such is the hallmark of democracy.
He explained that the petition became necessary after the party members in the local government met in Sabongida-Ora recently to review the alleged imposition of party executives without proper congresses and resolved not to be part of the charade.
"We unanimously resolved to reject in its entirety this novel development because of its proclivity to cause tension and cataclysmic Armageddon.
"We shall not remain aloof and allow greedy and parasitic politicians to convert the local government into a conquered enclave in Edo state,” the petition read in part.
